Beaumont Lodge Primary School, Leicester
10/01/2005

Beaumont Lodge identified that their nature area, which was developed over 4 years ago, desperately needed some ‘TLC’ and promoting again within the school community. A redevelopment programme was funded through the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit, which included involving children with nature surveys, getting EMAS club members involved in locating insect towers and getting funding for more trees. The photograph shows the EMAS club proudly displaying their EMAS flag which they were awarded with after verification, in their nature area.

However, as well as these ideas the school was very aware that they were producing far too much waste and have set up a recycling project within school, in partnership with Environ. Each class now has their own individual recycling bins and the EMAS club put together a fantastic assembly to let the whole school know about the importance of recycling.

This is an example of a school which has been actively working on points from their action plan. However, the actions which can be done are numerous. They can range from making posters to reminding people to turn off lights, or setting up compost bins to help reduce the amount of fruit waste they produce. Any ideas, no matter how small they may seem, can help to reduce your environmental impact.
